As a 12 year old, I hope you will listen to your great grandfather. First, over the years (and I have a few of them behind me), the comments that I have had from others that turned out to be most significant were the cheeky ones. People that respond that way are not concerned about telling you what you want to hear. They generally tell you the truth. Second, as a 12 year old, why are you having this conversation on Answers? Why are you not asking your mum about this? She is the one that is supposed to be helping you through this awkward time in your life. If she is not there, I am sorry, but if she is, she needs to be doing her job. Third, (and this is where I get cheeky...) if you are going to take control of your life, then do it. Leave home,. Get a job. Earn a living. Then you can do whatever you want with your face and your outfits and your hair. Likewise, you will find out that you are in charge of your personality, not the other way around. Good luck.
