What kind of record player should I buy?

I bought some records recently and I have been looking for a record player, but I am not really sure what kind to get. I know that I want one that has the older style amp so that it sounds better. I am wondering if there are new record players out now that have the older style inner workings so that is sounds really good? I ume that if you just bought any of the brand new record players it would be just like listening to CD so it renders the purpose of having the records and the player pointless.
